In 1920s Hollywood, silent cinema was at its technical peak, but was about to be supplanted by the advent of sound. Jack Conrad is a star known for his wild parties, while Nellie LaRoy and Manny Torres are two young people in search of success: she soon becomes an actress while he struggles as a production assistant. Inspired by the title of the famous book by Kenneth Anger Hollywood Babylon, the new invigorating film by Damien Chazelle tells with great deployment of means the rise and fall of its heroes, in a corrupt and promiscuous world but also full of great creative energy.
